[Seminar Series] TMJ aka The Jaw
Welcome to our Seminar Series. Today Dr Keegan, one of our Life Movement chiropractors, talks about TMJ pain also know as jaw pain.
TMJ?
Considered a multidimensional biopsychosocial disorder that has genetic and immunologic basis that shares common features, not only with other musculoskeletal conditions, such as fibromyalgia, low back pain, and headache, but also with idiopathic inflammatory conditions such as joint pain, IBS, vuluodynia, and other somatic and visceral deep tissue injuries
All this means we need to consider the TMJ, Mandible, Neck, Nervous System and a bunch of other structures when handling the jaw dysfunction.
Research generally favours splint therapy, PT, exercises, CBT over drugs, surgery and orthodontics as treatment for TMD.
